Board of Directors FAQ
WHAT DOES A BOARD OF DIRECTORS DO? Bridge Rep's Board has historically been diverse in age, ethnicity, gender and professional expertise who share a belief in Bridge Rep's Mission and draw meaning from working closely with the team of Playmakers. The Board oversees our conduct to ensure our affairs are managed responsibly and in accordance with our mission. The Board also provides financial and moral support, as well as strategic guidance, and certain professional services on a case-by-case basis. WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR? Bridge Repertory Theater’s ideal Board Member has a passion for the arts, and a particular interest in supporting a startup nonprofit founded and helmed by a woman, and staffed exclusively by a diverse team of entrepreneurial Playmakers all under the age of 35. If you believe in the power of what young, disciplined, creative people can do to impact their community -- we are your organization. Specifically, we are looking for individuals who can help us meet the financial and fundraising goals necessary to elevate our organization from its startup phase into a sustainable nonprofit entity with staying power. A dream team Board Member would be able to raise or generate resources that significantly impact the organization's financial well-being. Personal philanthropic bandwidth and a strong network of contacts are both essential. Benefits of Board service include working with a talented team of young creatives; being involved behind-the-scenes in the creation of live theatre; having a major impact on a promising organization and watching it grow into a cultural staple with staying power. HOW OFTEN DOES THE BOARD MEET? We have quarterly meetings in Cambridge, MA. Each meeting lasts up to two hours. Additionally, Board Members are expected to attend all Bridge Rep productions and other performance events. HOW LONG IS ONE TERM? ARE THERE TERM LIMITS? Terms currently last for two years, with a limit of three terms. DOES BRIDGE REP CARRY A DIRECTORS + OFFICERS INSURANCE POLICY? Sure do. IS THERE A LEVEL OF FINANCIAL SUPPORT EXPECTED? Our current "give / get" minimum is $5,000 / year. |
